Goose is back for a FOURTH year! In 2018 I was just looking for a healthy hobby. I joined twitter, and from there I started writing. I’ve always struggled as a writer in high school and college, and now I love it! I love getting to tell my story, even if it’s to myself.
In the past I tried to make it a point to release six plays, three NFL and three NCAAF. This year I wont force anything. If I don’t like any plays in a week, well then we will have a really short blog post!
Additionally, I’ll be working with @PaidForPlay a college football Saturday morning show. Myself and a few personalities will go live from approximately 10:30-11:30 Eastern on Saturday mornings. Here we will go over the big games of the weekend. Our first show was this past Saturday, August 28th, and we went 10-0 in our plays!
The Korner gives transparency though. The blog posts havent been a home run over the three years. The Korner has a three-year stretch of 83-78-4 or 51.55%. 2018 I was 46-42-3, getting very hot when I gave out a play for every bowl game. 2019 was 28-26-1 and 2020 was 9-10.
College Football is more than just football. Its alliance, its tailgating, its tradition. When there were no fans in the stands last season, my interest dipped more than in any other sport. I still watched my beloved Rutgers Scarlet Knights, but I still felt disconnected without the fans.
So let’s cheers to the College Football AND NFL season, and lets hope butts remain in the seats!!
Rutgers -14 vs Temple – Temple has some new pieces coming in like a Georgia quarterback transfer D’Wan Mathis. He will be protected by a good AAC offensive line and some decent wide receivers. Rutgers returns 19/22 starters on offense and defense, and they return their special teams unit. I think Temple is better than 1-6 in the AAC but I also think Rutgers will handle them. This veteran group went 0-5 at home last season in an empty SHI Stadium. The seats will be packed and will be erupting after some home run plays. Aron Cruickshank is the best return man in the B1G and a great receiver in open space. Bo Melton has NFL potential and should be a mismatch for the Temple secondary. A big key will be if Rutgers QB Noah Vedral can keep care of the ball. He doesn’t have to be a hero so i expect a very efficient game for him. Rutgers will run the ball, and take its deep shots.Rutgers 31 Temple 14 Lets void this play. Part of the cap was the home field sell out in a place that doesn’t sell out often. The game has been postponed till Saturday and I hope the crowd shows up. Ultimately, players minds might be on the historic Central Jersey flood. It’s a very unfortunate event and I hope all my readers are okay and safe.
Nevada +3.5 at Cal – I’d first like to say @Tekmunnee is all over this game. He tweeted about it a few weeks ago and really alerted me. Tek is a great transparent capper that I highly recommend following. So why am I on board with this game? Nevada comes in with a very strong offense led by QB Carson Strong, who could be a top three round draft pick. On top of that, Nevada’s top three pass catchers are tall seniors! They have a 6foot2 burner receiver, a 6foot4 guy opposite of him, and a 6foot6 tight end leading this pistol styler up-tempo offense. Cal is the favorite because they are a middle-pack Pac12 team with a strong defense, but I think Nevada will be the jewel of the Mountain West this season. The Nevada defense could be stronger, but that should be fine since Cal isn’t an explosive offensive team. Cal has trouble making big plays, so Nevada will just need to bend and not break.
Nevada 28 Cal 24
#3 Clemson -3 vs #5 Georgia – Holy ball game! Georgia has been lacking a deep threat QB but here comes JT Daniels! Its hard to gauge how good the gunslingger really is, as he went 4-0 last season after a shaky USC career. This will be by far histoughest test as he goes up against a veteran Clemson defense. Last season Clemson got carved up by Justin Fields and Ohio State. They bring back basically everybody, and are paired with the best defensive coordinator in college football. The Clemson corners are so deep that one had to transfer to Georgia for playing time. Georgia’s defensive strength is the DLine and Clemson will have trouble finding running room. And thats okay if you ask me. DJ Uiagalelei is a pocket passer and can shred any defense. He doesnt have the mobility of a Tahj Boyd, Watson, or Lawrence, but he might have the best cannon. With Justyn Ross coming back, the receivers will have to step up against a Georgia secondary who lost four starters to the NFL. Quite simply, with these two evenly matched teams, give me the better quarterback.
Clemson 28 Georgia 21
Thank you,
Goose
