Week 7

Homecoming. Ah a college tradition that makes college football the best. Saturday is Rutgers homecoming, where they might get embarrassed to Minnesota, but that wont stop me from seeing the squad and catching up with everyone! I mean what’s better then a boli from Stuff or 50cent slices from Olive Branch?! I’ll catch some of the Rutgers game but man am I low on them. Is there anyone optimistic?! Well you know what; next week I’ll tell you all the only way to fix the Rutgers football program.

I missed a decent chunk of homecoming last year. Chapter 6 last year mentioned the passing of a good friend T, who’s wake was on homecoming.

There was something special about T; he had a swagger to him, a vibe that you just wanted to be around. He was a pure golden man, and loved to talk basketball.

It was also mentioned that I had him start Keelan Cole over Calvin Ridley one week when we were hanging at Butchs, last season. Cole had 6 fantasy points and Ridley dropped 30! Long story short, shortly after his passing I got a Keelan Cole jersey. Last week I mailed the jersey to the Jags with a letter and was told I’d be able to get it autographed, so thanks Keelan! Cant wait to hang that one up!

Terrance left a bigger impact on me after his passing, and with his passing a year ago last Tuesday I’ve been thinking a lot. He smiled when he was here. Basically its so hard to comprehend living your life to the fullest and you might as well smile while we’re here. While Terrance’s death was preventable, some aren’t. And in the blink of an eye, you might not see your friend’s smile again. I try and not miss an opportunity now, I try and not worry over the smallest details, and when I’m down I just check myself and realize how good everything is.

You know, its funny. As I’m typing this Wednesday night, one of my mentor’s texts me “Hi Matty K. Be Great! Live your life to the fullest!” as I’m writing how Terrance got me to appreciate time and live my life to the fullest. It’s easier said then done, and there will be plenty of opportunities I don’t take advantage on, but its in the back of my mind forever now, and I’ll continue to attempt to shine. And this time at homecoming, I’ll enjoy my friends company cause that’s what’s most important.

Last Week 3-3
NCAAF 11-10
NFL 13-5

Iowa -17 vs Purdue – When I saw the Purdue helmets last week I knew they were going to win, I just noticed too late. But this will be a normal road game for them, and Iowa has to get back on track. They just lost to Michigan and Penn State by a combined 12 points, which really isn’t that bad. This is a regroup game where they should outmatch Purdue. The run game and OLine should be able to get a good push, and I think Iowa will be able to coast. Iowa 34 Purdue 14

Texas Tech +7 vs Iowa State – Texas Tech … plays defense? Well not fully but they have playmakers this year on that side of the ball and force turnovers. I like them this year they have offensive balance and as I said play somewhat defense. Together both QBs threw for 1900 yards and I don’t care who starts, they got some system down thee. As a home team +7 where you can easily get a garbage touchdown in the Big 12, look Texas Tech. Iowa State 34 Texas Tech 31

Florida State +2 at Wake Forest – Okay first off, Wake Forest is 5-1 and they are only a 2 point favorite? That’s cause they’ve played lots of cupcakes and I’m no believer right now. Florida State just has some stud athletes. I can really see them turning the season around and excelling if they can win on Saturday. They can slow down Wake Forest and punch them in the mouth. I’m no believer right now in Wake. Florida State 38 Wake Forest 35

49ers -9.5 at Redskins – The Redskins were fortunate to even beat the Dolphins last week, and probably should have lost. They are a mess, and in a full rebuild. Kyle Shanahan returns with his Niners to the Nations capital, where he’s throwing shade on how poorly the Redskins are ran. He will have his team locked and loaded looking to stay undefeated. A west coast team coming east is never easy, but this team is rolling and the Redskins are leaderless. 49ers 28 Redskins 17

Titans -2 vs Chargers – I’ve been preaching Ryan Tannehill all year. I just think he’s better than Mariota. When healthy he made the Dolphins a playoff threat. Now he can take over Tennessee, and show he belongs. Mariota just didn’t make enough plays for me, and I feel the receivers will respond well to Tanne. The Chargers are a train wreck at the moment, and I think the wheels fell off the bus. Melvin Gordon is demanding more touches, and says there is no flow to the offense. I look for Tennessee to get back on track. Titans 24 Chargers 20

Jets +9.5 vs Patriots – J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS? I was very high on the Jets coming in to the year, and finally with Darnold back they beat the Cowboys. Now CJ Mosely says he’s going to play, and I’m liking the Jets a lot. The Patriots could shut out anyone, but I see this division game being close. A double digit spread is too big for me right now, as the Pats haven’t been the hottest team the last few weeks despite the fact that they keep winning. I see Brady and the boys not being the offense they were in the past, and I see Darnold scarping enough points to keep this a nail biter in the fourth. Patriots 21 Jets 17

Thank you,
Goose
