Welcome!
Many of you already know, but my name is the Goose and this is Kowals Korner! For my newcomers, you will see me pick 3 college football games and 3 NFL games a week! I will be 100% transparent, credit my local legends, recap every week, and epically hitting 50% by the end of the season! You will also (most likely) get a nice intro which I stole from Matthew Berry. He always has great introductions to his fantasy football articles, which give a nice insight on his life! Now, mine aren’t as long, aren’t written as professional, and won’t reach the hundreds of thousands of people he reaches, but I tell a darn good story!
I want to quickly remind you all that my family owns one of the most popular watering holes in central/north New Jersey. I’ve been exposed to many Jersey legends along the way. I like to sit at a certain Korner of the watering hole, where I can easily see four to six tv’s and I can keep an eye on all my games. The watering hole has been in business since 1951 where my grandfather Butch owned it. It has been passed down to my father the Professor. Butch was statewide famous, and all the sharps knew him. The Professor does his thing too, and business is booming! My great uncle Tank is a famous tout who relocated out of New Jersey, but still helps the young Goose out. My brother, the Shark, has watched many games and knows his craft. He is a young Wiz himself who just loves the game. Me, I’m decent but I got to live up to the family greatness! After struggling with writing in high school, I began to love it during my time at Rutgers. I combine my like for writing and love for football and bring you all, the Kowals Korner!
I have some bad news before I get in to the games. My 2012 MacBook Pro … might’ve just died on me. It won’t turn on and it is giving me the three beeps which I hear is a RAM issue. Thankfully my roommate Byrd is a Tech Wiz and hopefully my issues will be solved. Life has been VERY busy and I cannot wait for him to get home from work so I am writing this on my phone. It’s a little harder then on the laptop! But, the Korner must live, even if I only reach 100 / 250 / 500 people, I must serve you all!
With no NFL, we will only have three NCAA games in the article. So without further ado, sit back, crack a claw, and let the show begin!
Thursday
BYU +6.5 vs Utah – One of the Professors famous lines is “the Utes are tough.” He applies this to both Utah basketball and football, and knows the Utah Utes are full of dudes. Utah has been on a roll and has won EIGHT straight vs BYU. The “Holy War” has been more a slaughter. All that being said, BYU plays Utah tough. Lets take out one of the eight games, and BYU has lost on average by only 4.5 points. BYU’s stout defense should be able to slightly contain Utah’s playmakers and frustrate them. Some experts are thinking Utah can challenge for a playoff spot and I don’t disagree. But I do think this will be a close one, where Utah escapes. Utah 27 BYU 21
Friday
USF +13.5 vs Wisconsin – Wisconsin has one of the best, if not the best running backs in college football. The Heisman is a QB battle to me, but if this was 5/10 years ago, Johnothan Taylor would be the front runner. The once Rutgers commit (OH DARN IT RUTGERS SHOULD HAVE HAD SAQUON THEN TAYLOR) has a great OLine to support him. But that’s Wisconsin. Run the rock! USF, at home, should be able to keep this within distance. Coach Charlie Strong is a great coach and will make USF respectable even against the big boys. They have a TE nightmare in Wilcox and decent skill position weapons. Former Bama QB Blake Barnett will have to make a play at the end of the game! Wisconsin 35 South Florida 24
Saturday
Eastern Michigan -6 at Coastal Carolina – Small school football! Well they are D1, and they aren’t pushover. Eastern Michigan is tough, and they will be a veteran group next season returning a lot of starters. EMich should challenge to win the MAC and it all starts in Conway South Carolina Saturday. EMich has a good defense and a Senior QB. To mean that equals success! Coastal is a team in transition, with a new coach and getting used to the D1 level. They lost their best defense player to Syracuse and don’t have a definite starting QB. Look for EMich to roll! Eastern Michigan 31 Coastal Carolina 21
There we go! Lets hope I get the laptop fixed so I can give y’all the best experience I can! Lets link up if anyone is going to the Rutgers game Friday night against UMass!!
Thank you,
Goose
